This week has been a key week for the playing surface at the Kassam Stadium with a brand new, state of the art pitch being laid.
The pitch was stripped back and levelled after the season and on Monday the first grass went down, as Head Groundsman Kieron Jennings explains
“It’s a very new system and it’s probably easiest to describe it as like a roll of carpet; grass but with a porous backing. Once everything is levelled you roll that on, bed it in and then it is designed to resist wear and tear and to provide a fantastic surface.
“That’s important given the way Liam Manning wants to play and he has been part of the process throughout, working with us in much the same way that we did at the Training Ground this summer where the training pitches were also resurfaced.
“It should allow the players to train and play on the best possible surface. It’s a proven product and one used at several Premier League grounds and we thank the wonderful team from Fineturf, especially Simon Hutton and Wayne Billing for their help over the summer, and the club for investing in a system that we believe will be a huge help for the coming season and beyond.”
