There was no hiding place for Oxford United after defeat at Burton Albion.
Defender Sam Long summed up the mood in the dressing room when he said:
“We weren’t good enough, all over the pitch.
“We have to hold our hands up as players and admit that. We have to be better in all aspects of our play. Burton made it difficult for us, granted, but you expect that and we were nowhere near good enough, especially in the first half.
“We didn’t take chances that came our way and when things don’t quite fall for you then the other team get their own momentum in the game. To be fair to them the strike for the first goal was a wonderful strike but we have got to be more clinical. We just can’t be giving that performance: that’s everyone out there. Burton were better than us in all aspects of the game and we can only apologise.
“We are professional and we know our standards. We were nowhere near those standards today, they have to be much higher.
“Now we have another big week ahead of us.We have two tough games but they are both at home and we need to bounce back. We have to put things right, starting on Monday when we have to come in, get our heads down and work as hard as we ever have to put things right.”
