Oxford United U19s face Swindon Town at the Bangkok Glass Training Centre this weekend in the South West Youth Alliance League. Kick-off is at 11AM.
The U’s beat their local rivals 3-0 away from home in the opening game of the season, thanks to goals from Gatlin O’Donkor and George Franklin.
Swindon sit in fourth place, two positions and five points above the U’s having played the same amount of games. A win for the Young U’s could therefore be important for closing the gap and derby day bragging rights.
Midfielder and Oxford fan Zaide Took-Oxley told us
"No one wants to lose the local derby and the boys are really up for it. It's a great atmosphere and it can be a bit intense and scrappy but that's part of a derby. We want to create some momentum going into the Youth Cup which we prepped really well for before the postponement. There's nothing we can do about that and we'll have to use this game to prepare well again."
Coach Chris Hackett said
“The boys know the importance of the rivalry and the importance of getting a win. We had our Youth Cup tie postponed till midweek so we need to put a good performance in so that we build momentum heading into that.”
