Oxford United U18’s lost 5-0 away to Colchester United U18’s in the Professional Development League yesterday to exit the competition at the group stage.
In a game played in difficult conditions an extremely young United squad could find no way to repeat an excelent FA Youth Cup performance in their last game, as Chris Hackett told us
"No excuses, the better team won and they played very well. We were without a few key players for various reasons but it doesn't matter what competition it is, you have to compete from the start and we didn't do that.
"There are always positives in any game; a number of our 16s were involved, one is only 14, so they have seen what it takes at this level and will benefit from it, but that's for the longer term. Right now we should be hurt by that result and try to use it to our advantage next time out."
UNITED
Barnsley, Bond, Maxwell, Took-Oxley, Sankoh (Cook) 65), Zabeli, Burton, Fowler (Brenan 55), Iheanacho (Snowden 55), Tiamuna, Elliott-Wheeler
Now, the squad will look to bounce back in a Youth Alliance League fixture away to Newport this Saturday, the 12th of November.
