Oxford United Women make the long journey down to Liskeard Athletic Women this weekend for the Vitality Women’s FA Cup.
The U’s will look to make it to the Third Round where Women’s Championship sides come into the fold this Sunday, the 27th of November. Kick off is at 2PM.
Liskeard Athletic play in the South West Regional Premier Division, which is Tier 5 of the Women’s football pyramid. They currently sit sixth in the division and are the only remaining Cornish side in the Women’s FA Cup.
Manager Liam Gilbert knows that despite the gap in League position, his side cannot take this fixture lightly.
“We know a fair bit as we’ve been able to see a few games and follow our normal process so we’re not taking any liberties and treating this game as any other. If you look back to what happened last year to us in the FA Cup, we were a little bit complacent.”
“With the majority of the group still in place we learnt a lot from that and with the mentality that this team has I don’t see it being a problem, they’ll prepare as any other, and especially with the distance we have to travel they won’t want a stroll around they’ll want to take it very seriously,” said Gilbert.
United will be without midfielder Lauren Haynes who is out until at least the New Year with an ankle injury.
If you can’t make it to Liskeard on Sunday, the U’s face Portsmouth Women away in the Second Round of the FAWNL League Cup the following Sunday.
