Matty Taylor gets set to lead the line for Oxford United at Shrewsbury on Saturday off the back of reaching three milestones with one swing of the boot last weekend.
Matty’s superb volley against Burton gave him 20 goals for the season, 50 league goals for the U’s and 100 Football League goals in his career.
“I was delighted to see it go in” he told the Preview Show.” I didn’t even think about it until I checked a few weeks ago and could see I was getting close to the 100, 50 for Oxford and 20 for the season. I just kept doing what I could and I was delighted to get those landmarks on Saturday. Hopefully there are a few more to come.
“The first one wasn’t too many years ago because I was late into the league but it was for Bristol Rovers at home to Barnet about six games into the season. I’ll never forget that moment and now I am over the moon to sit here on 100.
“The most memorable of them is a more difficult question; that first one for Rovers meant a lot as did my first for Oxford of course and then that one last Saturday wasn’t the type of goal I usually score. I got good contact and it flew in!
“I love to score goals but that first half last Saturday was excellent from the team. We moved the ball about really well, got balls into the box and I think we sensed we had goals in us.
“It sets us up nicely for Shrewsbury on Saturday where we have had some good games. We know they don’t concede many goals and are very resolute but we have nine big games left now and we have to go there looking for a win because the table is so tight.”
