Oxford United are likely to be without forwards Sam Baldock and Marcus Browne for a number of weeks after the pair picked up injuries in the last two games.
Browne sustained a hamstring injury in the game at Portsmouth while Baldock damaged a knee early in the second half during the 4-1 win over Burton on Saturday. Both had scored in those games.
Boss Karl Robinson told iFollow that although it is a blow he is hoping it’s not the end of the season for either player.
“Hopefully not” he said in his pre-match interview. “With Marcus we always knew we were going to see the best of him next season but hopefully the injury heals quickly and he can still play a part for us this season. The same with Sam who has done brilliantly for us. We will re-scan them both in two weeks time and know a bit more about how long they will need before they are involved again.
“They are very good players and can hopefully have an impact at the end of the season but don’t forget we were in good form and fifth in the league when they joined so we believe we have the depth of squad and quality of player to cope with most situations.
“Billy Bodin was in excellent form before he got injured and he should be back in the squad at Shrewsbury on Saturday and James Henry could be involved again too.
“We’ll wait and see who is available because there have been a few cases of covid around the squad and staff but hopefully by following the protocols, and we are still very tight on those, we will be OK.
“We’re looking forward to Saturday. There have been some amazing games for us against Shrewsbury and we got lucky a couple of times. They are a good side, we know that, but we know we are in good form, we played well last week and we will have our fans right behind us and hopefully there to share another good performance with us.”
