Oxford United have the ideal opportunity to show a positive reaction this weekend when they travel to Wycombe Wanderers.
A sold out away following will give the U’s great backing once again and as defender Sam Long told iFollow, defeat at Lincoln last weekend has given the U’s extra motivation this week.
“Every professional will say the same thing” he said. “Losing hurts so we came in on Monday and we had chats about it and I think there was complete clarity all through the group that we weren’t good enough in the first 45 minutes at Lincoln and that put us on the back foot. It was a poor result so we talked through what we could have done better and what we need to do better moving forwards.
“But I think now we move on and we will react to it on Saturday because the next month is massive for us and there are a lot of games coming up where we need to be at it.
“We need to improve, from Saturday, and we know where we want to be at the end of the season. We are still pushing towards that end goal but we know we can’t put in performances like we put in during the first half on Saturday if we want to achieve that.
"It’s good to have clarity and we are very honest with each other; we hold our hands up when we get it wrong and we don’t dwell on things. You can’t do that; nullify it now and move on to the next game
“React the right way on Saturday has to be our philosophy. Wycombe are a good side and up there for a reason. It’s going to be a battle but we are ready to roll our sleeves up and give it everything, especially with a sold out away end and what should be a great atmosphere.
"If we play like we know we can then we are more than capable of getting a result.”
