James Henry marked his return to action with a goal as Oxford United beat a QPR under 23 side 3-1 in a friendly at the Bangkok Glass Training Centre this afternoon.
Henry played 45 minutes, as planned, and scored from the spot with goals from Gatlin O’Donkor and Leon Chambers-Parillon giving the U’s a good win over their young visitors.
O’Donkor gave United the lead after just three minutes after Slavi Spasov, also playing 45 minutes on his recovery schedule from injury, had created the chance.
Spasov was then brought down for a penalty after 22 minutes which Henry, who had earlier hit the bar from 20 yards, converted despite having trouble keeping the ball on the spot in very windy conditions.
QPR then missed a penalty of their own early in the second half before Chambers-Parillon drifted inside two challenges and finished across the keeper to make it 3-0.
Clinton Nosakhare hit the post with a header and both sides had chances before Rangers gained a consolation on 71 with a close range effort after a high ball had swirled in the wind and dropped the way of the visitors.
QPR pressed in the closing stages with Kie Plumley making one excellent save to maintain the two goal advantage, but United will be encouraged by the performances of their younger players while Henry could be available again for First Team action as early as Saturday when the U's welcome Cambridge United.
