The inaugural Oxfordshire Walking Football League, run by the OFA, concluded on Sunday, with Oxford United Walking Football Club winning the over-60s league title.
Manager Martin Scarfe’s team were unbeaten in their 20 matches, winning 15 of them.
In the final round of games, United started slowly with a 0-0 draw against Chalgrove Cavaliers, then recovered from a goal down to win against Bicester Fossils with goals from Terry Haynes and Carlos Gomes.
Another Gomes goal was enough to defeat Cherwell Strollers 1-0, followed by a 3-2 win against Rotherfield United with Carlos and Martin Scarfe getting the goals. A 0-0 draw against closest rivals Oxford Rovers was so important as it kept United clear at the top. Charlbury Town were up next and two goals from Martin and one from Andy Beal saw the U’s cruise to a 3-0 win.
In the final match against Banbury Matureitans, a hat-trick from Gomes and another goal from Martin gave the team a 4-0 win.
The squad for this round of games was Martin Scarfe, Simon Jaggs, Andy Beal, Terry Haynes, Carlos Gomes, Sam Mitchell and Steve Weitzel. Other squad members were Ken Wroe, Steve Bennett, Ramon Tirda and Dave Williams.
Final record: PL 20 W 15 D 5 L 0 For 34 Against 7 Points 50
