LAST WORD: Thorniley on Wimbledon

Oxford United were left frustrated as a second half comeback gave AFC Wimbledon all three points at Plough Lane on Saturday.

“It was definitely frustrating” defender Jordan Thorniley told iFollow after the game. “I thought we had enough chances to score more goals but it was sloppy to concede from set pieces like we did so that’s something we have to work on.

“But it’s early in the season so it’s a good time to be making these mistakes, if there is one, because you have time to work on it and put things right.

“We knew Wimbledon would come at us in the second half. That is always going to happen no matter who you are playing .

“Any team 1-0 down at home is going to come out and have a go at you in the first 15 minutes of the second half, but to be fair I thought we were good then. We created a number of chances at that stage, but after that we kind of lost our way and it became a bit of a basketball game, end to end.

“We have started well and it’s nice to be up there like we are but it’s a long long season. Oxford were down the bottom at this stage last season and went on a great run after that. We have made a better start and are in a much better position and if we made mistakes today then hopefully we can put them right straight away.”
