Oxford United’s under 21s are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Southend United in the Central League Cup.
The team’s season was halted by covid with just one game remaining in the group stages of the competition and they travel to Southend as the first of five games in five weeks.
With the National Leagues North and South on hold many of United’s youngsters have been recalled from their loans while second year scholars such as goalkeeper Kie Plumley, left-back Sam Johnson, midfielder Jack Gardner and striker Callum Crook step up from the under 18s.
Tyler Goodrham, who has made an excellent recovery from injury, is also likely to be involved in the side although Leon Chambers-Parillon is again likely to travel with the First Team to Swindon tomorrow night having made his league debut on Saturday against Charlton Athletic.
Academy Manager Dan Harris told us:
“It’s great to see the lads playing games again. I’m sure, like Southend, that some of them will be a little rusty and not had much game time this year but most have been playing regularly and it’s a great chance for them to try and impress over the next few weeks and games.”
We’ll have a report and reaction right here after the game.
