Oxford United drew a blank with a 0-0 draw at home to Charlton Athletic on Saturday but Man of the Match Anthony Forde believes Tuesday night's trip to local rivals Swindon would be the perfect time to turn a run of draws in to a winning performance.
“It was a tough game on Saturday and quite scrappy at times so we had to fight hard and show a bit of commitment” he said “but I felt we probably should have nicked it. I know they had the penalty at the end but before that it felt like we had the better chances.
“In the second half we were on top. They got a bit lucky with the penalty decision but at the moment we maybe just need that bit of luck ourselves to turn draws in to wins. I thought I had scored the goal but it hit the bar. I hit the post the week before so there are fine margins in all of these games. Hopefully we can put it right on Tuesday night because we are still in a good position.
“It’s four draws out of five now and they have all been really hard games. Today was similar to Peterborough and Ipswich. Those games were always going to be close and either side is maybe one kick of the ball away from winning it. I felt we were going to be the ones to get that but fair play to both defences and now we move on to Tuesday.
“We know what it means to the fans against Swindon, but it means a lot to the players as well. The home game wasn’t good enough at all so we have to go there, put in a big performance and get the three points. The fans deserve that.”
