Dan Agyei was all smiles last night as his goal, seconds after coming on as a sub, ended up being the watch winner for Oxford United at Swindon.
“It was my first touch” he said after sprinting away to score the second goal in a 2-1 victory. “I’d been on the pitch for 30 seconds and then the ball came my way. That’s always a great feeling to come on and score straight away.
“It got a little bit tense at the end but who cares! We won a big game for us, a big game for the fans and we will leave here really happy tonight.”
Dan's goal came in front of what would usually have been a packed away end and maybe the one regret was that it wasn’t a moment he could share with the Yellow Army in person
“We definitely missed the fans” he admitted. “It would have been amazing to celebrate scoring with them. It was unfortunate that they weren’t able to come to the game but I hope the three points makes up for it. We definitely understood what it meant to people. We knew how disappointed everyone was with the way the home game ended and we just wanted to come here tonight and make amends for that. I hope we did that.”
Thoughts now turn to a trip to leaders Hull City on Saturday with Dan looking to continue his excellent run of form:
“I enjoyed starting Saturday, enjoyed coming on and scoring tonight even more” he laughed. “So let’s move on to another hard game at Hull on Saturday and see if we can keep things going.”
