Oxford United’s pre-season plans are still to be finalised although the first team squad are still hoping to get away for a training camp in Spain if Goverment guidelines allow.
If not then other plans are in place to allow to U’s to hit the ground running when they return at the end of June.
“We hope to go to Spain and it’s all booked and ready to go” Karl Robinson told iFollow. “We can hold on to it until late in June before we have to make a final decision because Spain is currently on the amber list and if it stays that way we won’t be going there. But we are hearing that the situation could change and we have learned to be flexible in our planning this year.
“If we do go then we hope to play Gibraltar and Plymouth if that is possible although we completely understand that Government guidelines are put in place for a reason and we will completely abide by what we can and cannot do.
“Portugal training camps went through the roof and camps in this country are ten times more expensive now but we’ll see. We have a Plan A and a Plan B, two complete pre-season plans so we will come back with one of those plans ready to go.
“I’ll get away myself before that because I do need it. It has been two very intense years. After the Blackpool game it all kind of hit me. I have dedicated my life to what we tried to achieve, the players have done the same, and I am proud of what we achieved but we have just fallen short.
“So I will get a break but I’ll be on my phone and on Zoom and we will never stop working. This club has to be in the Championship and it won’t get there by us having too much rest.”
