Oxford United are proud to be supporting new coaching sessions specifically for adults and children with Down's Syndrome.
Last week saw 16 players attend the first coaching session in the dome at the Oxford Academy with the next one to be held this Wednesday.
Coach Gary Allen told us:
“It came about through the Oxford United Walking Football team. We welcome everyone and believe that anyone should be able to enjoy the physical and social benefits of playing football.
“We started talking to DS Active in Oxford and learned a little about the challenges there are for people with Down’s Syndrome when it comes to football and that’s exactly the sort of challenge we love: can we make football sessions work successfully and offer the right environment for everyone?
“Inclusivity is one of the key things at Oxford United and we loved the first session and have been amazed at the response and reaction. We spoke with Karl Robinson and he has promised to come and help coach at a session later in the summer and we hope the numbers grow and grow.”
The next session takes place at the Oxford Academy on Wednesday at 5pm and is open to anyone with Down’s Syndrome, regardless of age. For further details please email: amanda@dsoxford.org.uk
