REACTION: Karl Delighted as U's Get Set for Banbury

Oxford United came through a challenging day to record a remarkable 9-0 win against Hayes & Yeading at Thame last night.

With 12 players self-isolating it was a game that left boss Karl Robinson full of praise for all involved:

“After the day we had I was delighted with the performance and the attitude from everyone. Not just the senior players but the youngsters: I am really excited about them this year” he said.

“There is an edge to them: Gatlin has done well, we know Tyler is a good player, Josh Johnson is a real talent in midfield and there are plenty more of them coming through. The senior players accepted responsibility and showed real leadership tonight so it was a good night all round.

“Now we go to Banbury on Wednesday. Obviously that will be a challenge with 12 players self-isolating but we want to go and play the game, I will manage the team, because it’s important we work with all our local sides.

"If it was anyone else then I might be on the phone saying we are struggling for the game but it’s Andy Whing and after all he has done for this football club we owe him for that so we will go and we will be competitive and I hope the fans go along too to support the game.

“Then we will go in on Thursday and see what needs to be done with our pre-season schedule. It has to change: the game at Birmingham will not happen on Saturday now and we will adjust things to our own benefit because the priority has to be getting everything ready for that first league game at Cambridge.

“ Over the last 18 months we have always found ways to adjust and be flexible so I am sure we can do that again. We will be ready.”
