Oxford United are delighted to announce that midfielders Mark Sykes and Alex Gorrin have agreed extensions to their deals and will be with the club until at least 2022.
The pair had options within their current contracts for a further year and for boss Karl Robinson it was an easy decision to trigger those extensions.
“It didn’t take too long to make that decision because they are good players, they both love playing for the club and we think there is more to come from both of them. We are building for the future here and both of them fit the bill really well; good players with great attitudes and lot of potential, so we are really happy to have them here for at least one more year and hopefully longer.”
Spanish midfielder Gorrin told us
“I am really happy and the club has been fantastic for me ever since I first arrived. It has been a long season but we can still achieve what we set out to do and reach the play-offs so all we can do is keep giving everything we have and see how far that gets us. Next season will be a big one for us, which ever division we are in, and the chance to play in front of the Oxford fans again makes me really look forward to it.”
Mark Sykes was just as happy to stay with the club longer
“I’m settled here, love living in the area and the club has given me the opportunity to really show what I can do. I’ll always be grateful that they took a chance on bringing me over here and hopefully I can repay that faith by playing a part in the last couple of games and getting us where we all want to be.”
