Oxford United got back to winning ways with an excellent 2-1 win at Wigan on Saturday
“I said in the week before that I’d take any old win but we actually played some really good stuff” Matty Taylor told iFollow after the game. “I thought we were brilliant off the ball as well as on it and then when they clawed us back late on it got a bit nervy for seven or eight minutes but we saw it through.
“Having played so well we knew we had to guard against a sucker punch - that has happened to us a few times this season where I think we have played well and got no reward. But we fought for everything and I think we thoroughly deserved the three points.”
Matty thumped home a stunning goal, his fourth of the season and was relieved to give his side the lead:
“We should have been out of sight if we’d taken our chances- I might change my boots for the next game! That’s the life of a striker though_ I got one in the end and if I hadn’t then I’d have been getting stick right now for the missed chances! But thankfully one went in, Jamo scored an excellent goal and we got the win which is all that matters.
“Now we have to do that more consistently. We know we have to pick up points much more regularly and hopefully go on a little run.
“If we lose a game then we just have to bounce back. We have been good at times this season, a bit unfortunate in some games, but today was our day. We got the three points and we move on to Portsmouth on Tuesday night.”
