Following yesterday’s statement from the EFL in which they outlined a roadmap for completion of the 2019/20 season Oxford United would like to restate their view that the season should be decided on the pitch.
The U’s have never wavered in their belief that the current season needs to be finished on the field of play and Managing Director Niall McWilliams told us:
“We have said all along that we think the fairest way to decide the league is by playing matches, always with the proviso that it is done with the health and safety of our players and staff as the priority. The EFL has asked clubs to give their views and ours will categorically be ‘let’s play’.
“Karl has produced an exciting team who have already had an incredible season in which we have beaten Premier League sides, set club records and played some spectacular football. Off the field we now own our own training facility, we have stability and the last few weeks have truly shown the importance of our football club to the whole of Oxford and Oxfordshire.
“We have done things with integrity and the utmost respect to all the clubs we have faced and all we hope is for a chance to win promotion the right way to cap off all the hard work.”
Head Coach Karl Robinson is of the same view:
“There has been so much talk about how to end the season and it feels like we are almost there now. We have faith in the process, we trust that common sense will win through and all we want is the chance for the players to put on those yellow shirts again and try to win promotion on the pitch.”
