Liam Kelly and Slavi Spasov were on the mark as a strong United side beat Queens Park Rangers 2-0 in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the training ground.
First team players Jack Stevens, Rob Atkinson, George Thorne, Liam Kelly and Dan Agyei all gained valuable minutes, while there was a chance for youngsters Nico Jones, Kevin Berkoe, Leon Chambers-Parillon, Kyran Lofthouse and Slavi Spasov to impress.
Spasov went close early on with a flicked header, while Kyran Lofthouse and Leon Chambers-Parillon both went close with efforts from the edge of the box as United got to grips with the windy conditions. United made their mark early on when Liam Kelly opened the scoring on 30 minutes as his free kick went through everyone and found its way into the corner.
Goalkeeper Jack Stevens was called into action on the stroke of half time as he saved well with his feet to preserve the U’s lead at the break. Oxford grabbed the final goal of the game shortly after the restart when Spasov was alert in the area to fire home after a deflected shot from Lofthouse to make it 2-0 to United.
A good run out for United as Agyei played 60 minutes and Thorne and Atkinson both played the full 90.
