Karl Robinson was all smiles yesterday as Oxford United returned to the Oxford Sports Park for the first time for group training.
“It’s been a long time but for all the right reasons” Karl told iFollow “ and I think it’s important that people realise that with everything going on we will still be social distancing and sticking to the government guidelines and trying to do the right things.
“But it’s the first step and hopefully we get to stage 2 quickly this midweek. We will hopefully have a game this weekend but the players are fit and everything we have tested so far has been very good so we are just waiting now for the EFL meeting on Tuesday for their guidance on where they think the season will go.
“We have always said we think it should finish on the pitch. We had our second batch of testing this morning so we will then get the results back and be able to move forward towards contact training later in the week. It has been challenging, but the whole thing has been challenging for everyone in the world and now we have to run a football club in this new world that we are living in.
“You have to adapt and change. We have been very strict on what is right and wrong. Testament to the Board, and Niall McWilliams and Tim Davies deserve a huge amount of credit for making sure we are in a very strong position.
“We hope everyone is fit and well at home and that fans are just as excited to see us back as we are
Now we want to finish the season. We are third in the league, we have had two great cup runs and we have had a wonderful season so we want to bring it to the right conclusion now.”
