Oxford United’s Backroom Team is now in place for the coming season with Craig Short joining the club as First Team Coach.
Craig joins from Derby County where he was helping the next generation of young players come through their Under 23 team and joins a very familiar face at the U’s: his brother Chris is Head of Sports Science.
The former Blackburn, Everton and Derby centre-half worked with the U’s earlier in the summer, impressing boss Karl Robinson and is part of the Oxford squad who travelled to South Wales today for a five day Training Camp.
“It’s a wonderful opportunity” he told iFollow. “You can see that the backroom team here work brilliantly together under Karl and I have been made to feel welcome and part of that straight away. I want to thank Derby for the last few years but this was a great chance for me. I live in Bicester so I have followed the club for a few years now.
“I am so glad that Derek Fazackerley is still around as well. I rang him and asked how how he would feel if I came in and he immediately gave me his blessing. That was important to me but also typical of the way things are done here and how the club does the right thing.
“The next few days will give me a chance to work with everyone and build bonds that I am sure will help us have another really successful season.”
