Oxford United and the Oxford City Stars have re-ignited the Oxfordshire United partnership.
The ice hockey club’s captain Josh Florey and Assistant Captain Alex Staples visited United’s training ground yesterday to watch the U23’s match and to re-launch the long-standing partnership between the clubs. They were joined by United’s young stars Kyran Lofthouse, Fabio Sole, Kevin Berkoe and Fabio Lopes.
As part of the partnership The Stars have put the Oxford United in the Community logo on the back of their new home shirts to help celebrate our charity’s 30-year anniversary. The Stars have returned to playing in yellow and blue for their new campaign in the National Ice Hockey League Division One South.
To celebrate Oxfordshire United a raft of activities will take place this weekend and across the season.
The Oxford Junior Stars U9s and U11s teams will be our flag bearers on Saturday when we host Rochdale. Plus, the club will also host a ‘stick and puck’ shoot out in the family stand for U’s fans to try their hand at hockey.
United fans can also benefit from a special offer to watch the Stars on Sunday as part of the first Oxfordshire United weekend of the 2019/20 season.
Oxford United season ticket holders, or fans with a Rochdale match-ticket stub can enter the Stars game at a special Oxfordshire United discounted rate for their game against MK Thunder at 6.15pm Sunday evening at Oxpens.
Use the discount code ‘Oxfordshire United’ when booking online to secure your discounted rate of just £5.50 for adults and £3 for concessions or pay cash on the door. Please note you will need to take your season card or match stub to the match to secure the discounted entry.
United Managing Director Niall McWilliams said: “It’s great for the two clubs working together again. I know a lot of fans support both clubs and we’re both proud to represent the county together. We wish the Stars all the best for the season.”
Stars’ Captain Josh Florey said: “As an Oxford lad I support United and get along to games when the Stars aren’t playing. I love representing Oxford and am very proud to do so with the Stars. We’re pleased to partner with United again and look forward to working together.
“Both the Stars and United are a way of life for so many people and Oxfordshire United is all about celebrating that passion for the county.”
Get behind both clubs this weekend on what should be two fantastic matches taking place in our city.
And look out for further Oxfordshire United events across the season.
