Oxford United's Under 16 Girls team missed out on a place in the final as they lost 3-0 against a strong Arsenal side in the semi final of the Girls FA Youth Cup on Saturday.
The Yellows put in a disciplined performance throughout the game, doing their best to keep an Arsenal side full of international players out the game but Arsenal proved just too strong with a 3-0 victory.
This is the furthest the girls have ever progressed through to in the competition and they deserve huge credit for the way they have conducted themselves throughout the campaign.
Rebecca Sawiuk, RTC Technical Director told us
‘Arsenal are always going to be difficult opposition, a team full of youth internationals and our girls stuck to the game plan and we were only 0-1 after 60 minutes of football. We tried to push on higher up the field to get back on level terms and Arsenal pushed on and got two more goals.
"As ever the players defended very well, put their bodies on the line in the big moments and Chloe, our keeper, made a fantastic save in the first half.
"The u16 players and club staff should be very proud of this achievement, the furthest an Oxford side have ever reached in the FA Youth Cup and its no more than their hard work and performances deserve. Our multi-discipline staff team have worked hard behind the scenes to provide the players with the best chance of success all season long and I want to take this opportunity to thank them for their continued hard work and professionalism.’
