Oxford United visited one of the iconic venues in their home city today to make sure their pre-season was on the right track.
For their third day of training the U’s visited Oxford University’s Iffley Road stadium where Sir Roger Bannister famously broke the four minute mile. The U’s were put through their paces on the track completing a series of 400 metre runs throughout the morning, with Karl Robinson telling us:
“Chris Short is into his history and loved the fact that Iffley Road had such an historic moment attached to it, one where Roger Bannister pushed himself to the limit but was helped to break the record through by those around him. It’s important that the players have that connection with Oxford and know a little bit about the city they represent and there are images and reminders all around the track.
"It was a tough schedule for them this morning but they all did extremely well and now they get a little rest to recover from the first few days before we head off for Portugal and an intense week of training in the heat.”
