Oxford United fans cross so many generations as Chairman Sumrith 'Tiger' Thanakarnjanasuth has been discovering.
On his last trip to the UK over Christmas and New Year Tiger ran in to life-long Oxford fans Raymond Sargeant and Dennis Hedges who were happy to share their stories of United’s past with the Chairman who told us
“I had a great chat with them. They are both season ticket holders and have been for 60 or even 70 years! That is so great to hear. They still love the club and coming to games and I know we have so many senior fans; I like meeting them and hearing all their stories about the great players and games from the past.”
That got us thinking. We know we have fans in their 90s - the remarkable Ron Slater from Thame still attends games home and away aged 92 for example. Who is Oxford United’s senior citizen? Can anyone beat being a season ticket holder at 92?
And we want to hear from our older fans. Every match programme features a ‘Fan of the Week’, telling us their memories of days gone by. Share your memories with us: email Martin Brodetsky (mbrodetsky@oufc.co.uk) if you want to be Fan of the Week, or if you know of a long-term fan who you think deserves recognition.
