Oxford United head for Brentford on Saturday looking to cause an FA Cup upset against their Championship hosts.
Head Coach Karl Robinson sees Brentford as a model that the U’s can follow, but also sees the game as a chance for his team to rediscover the winning formula after three defeats over the Christmas period.
“We can go and try to show what a good team we are” he told iFollow today. “We know we are against a good team with some fantastic players as well, and a club that over recent years has become a very stable club at Championship level. It took four years for them to get out of this league and it took them time to get the right balance, to find the right identity. They did that and it is to be commended. They are absolutely a model for us to follow, one hundred percent.
“I spent a lot of time around Oxford over Christmas and I have seen the place and what the club means to people here. Brentford have found a way to get success and be consistent in the league above us, and that has to be our aim: to find a way to do that as well.
“Our fans will see growth and progression here and the way Brentford have done it has been fantastic.
“But for now it is all about Saturday. We have sold out of our away allocation and will have tremendous support, as we always do and it’s the FA Cup so you never know. That’s the hope and the optimism and what the FA Cup is all about.
"We are looking forward to the challenge and with our fans in full voice it should be a really great cup tie for everyone to enjoy.”
