Oxford United in the Community are giving youngsters a chance to learn football the Brazilian way.
The official charity of Oxford United are launching two brand new indoor Futsal courses for children aged between four and eight, and nine and 12. The seven-week courses start at 5.30pm on Wednesday January 9 th and take place at The Oxford Academy, Sandy Lane West, Oxford.
Imported from Brazil, Futsal is a great way for boys and girls to be introduced to football and develop their skills. It is played in a five-a-side indoor pitch, with a smaller, heavier ball that does not bounce. The ball tends to stick to the foot, helping children to feel more control and to build confidence.
Chris Lowes, Head of Operations at Oxford United in the Community, said: “Our Futsal programmes are designed to encourage young children to lead active, healthy lifestyles from an early age. Futsal is an idealway for children to learn basic football skills in a very child-friendly environment that is nurturing and creative.
“Most Brazilian footballers grew up playing Futsal and have spoken highly of its benefits. On a local level we have seen the positive impact Futsal has been delivering for youngsters and are excited to be launching our own programme in the county.”
The courses are run by Oxford United in the Community’s experienced and fully qualified coaches. The football club’s official charity helps inspire youngsters to reach their potential and improve their health and wellbeing via the power of football, engagement and education.
Oxford United in the Community’s coaching staff deliver programmes in nursery and primary schools across Oxfordshire. They are qualified not only in football coaching, but in teaching interventions including Real PE, which focuses on the development of agility, balance and coordination, healthy competition and cooperative learning.
The Futsal courses are £60 per child for the seven-week programme and are open to children of all abilities. To enrol please visit: https://officialsoccerschools.co.uk/oxfordunited/
