Last night saw a Social Media Workshop for our Academy players at Court Place Farm.
Social media has been in the news once again this week and as a club we want to highlight both the power and the perils of social media to our young players. With that in mind Academy Head Dan Harris, Manager Karl Robinson, winger Gavin Whyte and Communications Manager Chris Williams went along to talk to players from the under 14s to under 16s with a short presentation and a Q&A session.
Chris Williams told himself:
“It was Karl and Dan who had the idea really, so credit to them; they both strongly believe that we have a duty of care to our players at all ages. The FA come in and run workshops for our under 18s and senior players but we wanted to talk to the younger age groups as well. Gavin was fantastic; he was honest and showed real strength to talk to the players and get the message across that social media can be very dangerous.
“But we also wanted to remind them that as a club we have a very strong welfare network and there are safeguarding measures in place at all levels. All of our Academy players get great support and they know there is someone to talk to if they need to.”
