An excellent second half comeback saw Oxford United Women win 4-3 against Yeovil Town in the National League courtesy of goals from Gemma Sims, Emily Allen, Georgia Timms and Keyleigh Hines at Court Place Farm
United started well and the best move of the first half came on 20 minutes when a neat interchange between Ellie Searle and Allen saw the ball was worked into the path of Daisy McLachlan who forced a corner before United’s bright start was rewarded on 24 when Cheryl Williams' deep cross caused all sorts of problems in the wind, with Sims rising highest in the area to head home the opener.
United continued to press the visitors with a Lauren Haynes header going just wide on the half hour mark the closest they came to a second before Yeovil drew level when Laura Williams' curling strike looped over keeper Sercombe to restore parity. It got worse for the U’s on the stroke of half time when Kelly Aldridge broke free and placed a low strike beyond Sercombe to turn the score on its head.
A quick response was needed in the second half for the U’s but instead Glovers winger Williams drifted in from the right wing on 58 minutes and again curled an effort beyond Sercombe to make it 3-1 to the visitors.
United responded well and Allen grabbed one back on 68 minutes as she latched onto an excellent delivery from McLachlan to power a header home and give United hope, and their persistence paid off when Ellie Searle’s pace got the better of the defender and she beat the goalkeeper to poke the ball through to the unmarked Timms who had an easy task to roll the ball home unmarked for a deserved equaliser to make it 3-3.
United then completed the comeback moments later as Hines’ powerful header from a corner saw United ahead once again after a terrific performance in the final 20 minutes in yet another excellent game at Court Place Farm.
It was a deserved win for United Women who controlled possession throughout the afternoon against a strong Yeovil Town side.
Next up, Oxford United Women face Plymouth Argyle at Court Place Farm as they look to finish their 2019 home games in style
