Oxford United are delighted to have extended young midfielder Aaron Heap’s stay with the club.
Midfielder Aaron, who graduated from the under 18 team last summer, has been a regular in the under 23 side this season and made his first team debut away at Wycombe Wanderers earlier in the season. Having recently returned from a training camp with the Wales under 21 squad the club has taken up a further six month option on Aaron’s contract and Academy Manager Dan Harris told us:
“Aaron has massive potential and is a local lad who really wants to make the most of his chance here. He knows there are things he need to improve but the one thing you get from him is total honesty and a fantastic work ethic. He now has until the end of the year to show that he can become a regular part of the first team squad but we are really happy to be able to work with him and help him hopefully achieve that dream.”
Meanwhile left-back Matt Taylor has been told that he will not be offered a new deal when his contract expires this summer.
Matt was a scholar at Wigan Athletic and then joined the U’s after leaving Derby County last summer. After impressing as a trialist Matt has played regularly for the under 23 side as well as becoming a regular while on loan at Banbury United.
Dan told us:
“Matt has been a really good lad to have around the building. He has a great attitude and it was a very hard decision to make but ultimately we have to be ruthless as we look to the future. Having the discussion now means he has time to find a new club and I am sure he will have plenty of takers. We certainly wish him well in everything he does in the future.”
