Oxford United need to build from Saturday’s 2-0 win over Plymouth Argyle. That was the simple message from First team Coach Shaun Derry when he spoke to iFollow after the game.
“We have had some tough days at the start of the season” he admitted “and ultimately we knew that playing the team second from bottom meant it was a big game- we talked about that during the week. But at the same time it is one game out of 46 and while we may have been on the floor at some times this season we have to enjoy a positive result and try and build on it.
“I thought we did that today after another positive result at Southend last week. Everybody recognised that we all had to get behind each other this afternoon. The crowd were amazing and have been all season so we look forward now to the next game
“The timing of the first goal was great. There have been times this season when we have been on the front foot and not scored the goal and that creates a bit of nervousness, but today was a very dominant display from us and we are delighted. The second goal was important because we have spoken about needing to put games to bed - we did that and it was a collective effort from everyone involved at the club.
“It needs to be a big step now and we need to recognise the importance of the win and build from it. We got the three points and now we look forward to the next game.”
