Oxford United’s Under 23s warmed up for next week’s Premier League Cup game against Wolves with a 3-2 win over Coventry City in a friendly this afternoon.
Trailing 2-0 United hit back with two penalty goals, with Harvey Bradbury scoring the second and then netting the winner as United came from behind to claim the win.
Chris Allen told us
“It was a really interesting game to watch because we were 2-0 down and not doing great at all but then our scholars from the youth team came on and had a massive impact on the game with their energy and enthusiasm and in the end I think we deserved the win despite being outplayed in the first 30 minutes.
“At 2-0 down we got a goal back when one of our two trialists was brought down and scored from the spot and then in the second half Owen James started running at defenders and making things happen. Harvey scored a penalty to make it 2-2 and then Owen went on another great run, cut it back and Harvey made it 3-2 to turn the game round completely.
“It could have been even more because we missed a few chances, but credit to the young lads because they are on such a good run in the youth team and have that confidence and made such a positive impact.
"Our thanks to Coventry, whose training ground is excellent, and now we move on to the game against Wolves next Monday at Thame.”
