Lego: Let's Keep Building

Match winner Ryan Ledson dedicated Saturday’s dramatic last minute goal to the magnificent Yellow Army as United won 3-2 at Charlton.

Ledson strode on to a cut back to steer the ball home in injury time at the Valley and told iFollow:

“You know me and the fans. I have a great relationship with them and that was for them today. They came in numbers, they sang their hearts out and all the boys appreciate it. So that one was for them.

“I’d say it was one of the best performances of the season. Faz said before the game that is we got the performance right the result would take care of itself. Maybe there were one or two mistakes which we got punished for but we were clinical in front of goal and maybe could have had a couple more.

“In this league you seem to see so many last minute winners every week. I think we defended really well as a team , better than we have been doing in the past few weeks and now we have to back it up next weekend against Bristol Rovers.”

United overcame injuries to strikers Wes Thomas and Jon Obika as well as being behind twice, but ‘Lego’ was quick to praise the workrate of everyone involved

“The passing and movement were good” he said. “Mowy did well in the 10 role: if he dropped back then me or Ruffs went further forward and I think it was about the one or two extra passes. It was tough with one up front: I thought Malachi was brilliant when he came on and Isaac as well. They are only little lads but they throw themselves about.”

The winning goal was a fine strike and Ryan is hoping there are one or two more to come from him now:

“It’s about time I scored from open play not a penalty. I had a few opportunities and I’m going to try and get more goals into my game. I’m the one predominantly sitting in front of the back four but if I get myself forward I just have to make sure I hit the target, and I fancy myself from the edge of the box.”

We may have slightly paraphrased what Ryan actually said; enjoy the full unedited, unbleeped, version above in iFollow.

It was a fantastic game and a brilliant result and like Lego says, we want to build on it. United are at home to Bristol Rovers on Saturday. The away end is sold out so there is going to be a fantastic atmosphere. Play your part and get behind the U’s.
