Oxford United Women beat QPR 3-0 away on Sunday to record their first win of the season. Manager Liam Gilbert writes:
"It was a good response by the players after the disappointment of last week. 3 goals, 3 points and a clean sheet, which was the perfect way to bounce back.
We made three changes to the starting line up against Chichester and it was good to see players take the opportunity to step up and pose more headaches for myself and the coaching staff.
We scored one of the best goals I’ve ever been a part of. The ball has gone from back to front, left to right I think every player has touched the ball and the ball was set back to Flo Fyfe in the middle of the park and she hit a screamer in the top right corner from 25 yards. Georgia Timms then scored a well taken penalty; it was good for her to open her account for the season as she has worked tirelessly for the team in the opening two games. And then for the third goal a great delivery resulted in a QPR player deflecting the ball past her own keeper.
Fair play to QPR in the second half they didn’t stop and came at us. We still looked to play football and there are a lot of positives to take from some of the things we did.
When I sit and look back on the game, the impressive thing for me was the average age of the starting line up was 21. The potential in this group is fantastic and their hunger to improve every week will enable us to iron out some creases that inevitability came up and build towards our league cup game next Sunday.
