Two Oxford United players have been called in to the Northern Ireland squads for next week’s internationals.
Winger Gavin Whyte’s early season form has led to him being selected for the full Northern Ireland squad for the UEFA Nations League and International challenge matches at home to Bosnia & Herzegovina and Israel on Saturday 8th and Tuesday 11th September.
Karl Robinson told us
“It’s fully deserved. He has seized his chance here and done really well and we’re really pleased for him. Hopefully he now shows what he can do on the international stage.”
Meanwhile young midfielder Aaron Heap has also been called up by Northern Ireland, this time for the under 19 squad to play two friendlies against Slovakia. This comes after Aaron was initially placed on stand by for the Welsh squad in the same age group, but he will now link up with Northern Ireland instead. Dan Harris, Academy manager said
“Aaron works so hard and we are all delighted. I thought he had an outstanding game for the under 23s at Southend in midweek and to have two national sides watching him speaks volumes. It’s also a great thing for everyone at the Academy to know that people are monitoring how our players are progressing.”
Another under 23 player, Dejon Noel-Williams has joined Chesham on a month’s loan. He goes into their squad to play at home to Wimborne Town tomorrow.
