Goalkeeper Simon Eastwood has been talking to iFollow ahead of Saturday’s season opener at Barnsley
United’s number 1 has been in outstanding form all pre-season but knows he faces tougher tests once the season gets going, starting at Oakwell…
“I think we have a tough start for three or four games really” he said “but it’s important that we hit the ground running. But whatever happens we just have to keep our heads and not get carried away; last season we had a really good start and won the first two games with clean sheets but it ended up being a disappointing season all round so you can’t get carried away after just one game.
“A clean sheet at one of the bigger clubs in the league is something we will aim for and can definitely build on though. Pre-season has been good so now we can’t wait until Saturday afternoon.”
As well as welcoming his second daughter into the world this summer the popular keeper has been busy setting up his own goalkeeping school at Bicester.
“It’s something I’ve been wanting to do for quite a while” he told us.
“I took my coaching badges last season and having signed a three year deal in the summer I started to think more seriously about putting down roots and giving something back to the area and helping to coach the kids in Bicester. I kind of got put in goal when I was a kid but there is a lot you can learn from coaching and I want to see if I can pass on my experience.
“As well as playing it’s something I maybe want to look in to in the future so we will start with Monday nights in Bicester and hopefully it goes well from there.”
