There was a special moment during United’s 3-0 win over Wimbledon on Saturday.
The middle goal came when left back Ricardinho joined the attack and fired home his first goal for the club to spark joyous celebrations on and off the pitch.
The Brazilian could hardly contain his delight when he spoke to iFollow after the game:
“I want to thank the fans and the players because they have helped me a lot” he said. “I’m really enjoying being here and I want to give the goal to them because I respect the shirt, the players and the fans. All I do is try my best and try to help us win as many games as possible.”
It was Ricardinho’s first goal for the club and came after a typically rampaging run forward. We wondered whether the rest of the back four were screaming at him to get back?
“No! But sometimes they look at me and tell me ‘No you have to mark the striker!’. But on Saturday I saw Wimbledon start to go on the right hand side and open a gap for me. Everyone was watching the ball and forgot about me. I didn’t expect the ball to come but I just tried to be more compact and see if the ball came to me. When it did I was unmarked and decided to shoot and it was great to see the ball go in.
“I am so happy to score because I don’t do that very often, but I’m happy because I can give the goal to my wife because she is pregnant, and to the fans who support me but the most important thing is the win.
“We spoke after the Peterborough game and said that as a team we cannot go up and down. Pep told us before the game that we had to stay at that good level, and even if we don’t play well then we have to fight and play as a team and be smart. We needed to win, that was the most important thing, and that’s the same for the next game now.”
