Oxford United are leading the way when it comes to recovery this season.
The U’s have been working alongside RP-X Fitness who have supplied and fitted a purpose built Cryo-Chamber in the physio area at Grenoble Road. The chamber goes down to temperatures of around-90 degrees and is used by the entire first team squad after each training session and home match.
United’s Head of Sports Science and Medicine Andrew Proctor told us:
“It is a fantastic piece of equipment which we think will make a huge difference. We have trialled a similar chamber on a temporary basis before and been really impressed with the results and by working with RP-X we have been able to fit a permanent chamber at the stadium which perfectly suits our needs.
“The players go in for three minutes at very low temperatures and it flushes out any impurities, compresses muscles, stimulates the heart beat and helps them recover from the training session or match. They then do a couple of minutes on the bike just to bring them back up to usual temperature. That all fits around our pre and post match programme for them.
“We are monitoring it closely each time and their recovery is being helped massively. They are also reporting improved sleep at night, which we know is a massive help in recovery.
“It has also been beneficial for the long term injured players; Charlie Raglan is doing really well and we believe this has been a big help for him.
“Not many teams in League 1 will have this and the guys at RP-X have been great to work with. I think one or two players dreaded it at first but they can all see the benefits now and we look forward to working with RP-X and continuing to develop new ideas for the benefit of the players and the team. “
