Ahead of tonight's Checkatrade Trophy game at home to Brighton, United’s Rob Hall has picked up the inaugural Player of the Round Award for his performance in the opening round of matches.
Hall was voted as the winner in the new award that has been set up by title sponsors Checkatrade, and voted for by the fans after being shortlisted by an independent expert. He was key in Oxford’s 6-2 win at Stevenage, where he played a part in two goals and scored two superb individual efforts.
The Checkatrade Trophy Player of the Round competition gives fans the opportunity to vote for the player they feel shined in the first round of fixtures. U’s fan voted in their masses for their star forward giving him the first award of the season.
Rob said: “It was a very good game, a quick and tough start. Stevenage really put us to the test in the first 20 minutes and managed to go 1-0 up, but we kept our composure and showed a lot of character to come from 1-0 down to go 2-1 up just before the break, and then we really kicked on in the second half."
Kevin Byrne, Founder and CEO of Checkatrade, said: “I’d like to pass on my congratulations to Rob for his award win, a worthy winner after that fantastic performance for Oxford against Stevenage. His second goal was a screamer – if he continues to play like that then it could be a third time running that the U’s make a Wembley final!”
