Oxford United head for Scunthorpe United on Saturday looking to build on their impressive start to the season.
Two wins from two games have given new boss Pep Clotet just the start he wanted, but the Spanish manager is not about to get carried away:
“We have worked very hard in the two games so far and our focus remains on moving forward as a team” he told iFollow. “Now we have to do the same in another very tough game, but we are in very good spirits as you would expect after these two results.
“We’re not checking the table because they don’t make any sense yet. They don’t make too much in March really, only in May when we finish. I think for us right now we just need to keep working hard to improve but also we just keep our feet on the ground and keep a balance because we had a good game against Oldham, and against Portsmouth but in between we had that setback in the cup. So some people may say we are playing well, others were disappointed against Cheltenham.
“You just have to keep the middle ground and stay balanced, knowing you have to compete in every game.”
United have plenty of options with Gino Van Kessel scoring on his debut and Kane Hemmings back in the fold after injury, while Spanish midfielder Xemi and striker James Roberts were on the mark in a 2-1 friendly win over Wimbledon this week.
“A few of the players who haven’t been playing so much or have had little niggles played in the game against Wimbledon in a friendly on Tuesday” Pep said “so we have a big squad to choose from this weekend.
"Scunthorpe did very well last season and they have speed and power and are a good football team. It will be a huge test for us.”
