Trio make it seven players playing locally
Three of Oxford United’s youngsters have gone out on loan to Oxford City to gain experience and match sharpness.
James Roberts and Josh Ashby have joined city on youth loans while Jonny Giles joins on a three months loan- he is slightly older at 22 and ineligible for the same youth loan that also sees Robbie Cundy and Jack Stevens currently playing at Court Place Farm.
With newest pro Jordan Graham at Didcot and George Jeacock at Brackley it takes the total to seven players playing locally and Head Coach Michael Appleton said:
“It is all part of the learning curve for all of them to play senior, men’s football which is properly competitive. Robbo, Josh and Jonny have all benefited from loans last season and went straight into City’s side last night against Bath so they will gain match sharpness and get game time while continuing to train with us during the week.”
Giles scored a superb goal in City’s 3-1 win last night, although Roberts may want to forget his debut after receiving a red card.
