Tournament held on the pitch to mark end of the season
Today’s ‘Celebration Sixes’ allowed fans and staff to end the season with a great afternoon of six-a-side football on the Kassam Stadium pitch.
Teams of supporters and local businesses competed in a round robin competition that saw United legends Jamie Brooks and Peter Rhoades- Brown joined by celebrity fan Timmy Mallett and staff from all areas of the club to compete against fans in a fun tournament that ended with Turners Tacklers, captained by former United youth team player Simon Turner, lifting the trophy after beating Grundon in the final, with Wellers winning the final of the plate.
The event, which raises funds for the club’s Community Trust, is set to become an annual event as Peter Rhoades-Brown told us:
“It was great fun and I’d like to thank all the teams who came along. There was plenty of really competitive football but most of all plenty of laughs and a great spirit throughout the competition. We would love this to be just the start: we will look to grow this again for next season and make it a day that fans mark in their calendars each year.
“Our congratulations to Turners Tacklers but also our thanks to every business and each player who made it such a success."
