Hylton Moves On

Hylton reunited with Mullins at the Hatters

Oxford United can confirm that striker Danny Hylton has declined a new deal with the club and will instead be signing for Luton Town.

Hylton, 27, scored 27 times in 85 starts for the U’s after joining from Rotherham United in the summer of 2014. The former Aldershot striker also scored at Wembley in this season’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy final and Head Coach Michael Appleton thanked him for his contribution to the club :

“We’re sad to see Danny leave because he has been very popular around the club and especially with the fans. We made him a much improved offer to stay but he has a young family to think of and we respect his decision and wish him well for the future.”

He will join up with Johnny Mullins who signed for the Hatters earlier in the day.

Chairman Darryl Eales said:

“First and foremost we’d like to thank Danny and Johnny for everything they have done.for Oxford United. They have both been terrific servants of the club, as well as being top blokes, and we wish them well in their new challenge.

“We have a very experienced recruitment team and I know that Michael has already spoken to a number of potential new players. I’m sure fans will be keen for news but I hope they understand that  we need to take our time, do our homework and ensure that we improve  what is already a very strong squad.”
