Things go with a bang for the U's
Oxford United were delighted to accept an invitation to spend a day with the Dems Regiment at Bicester Garrison yesterday.
Chairman Darryl Eales, commercial partners and the backroom staff and coaches were joined by first team players Jake Wright and Josh Ashby plus Demi Lambourne, Lauren Haynes and Holly Pickett from the women’s side plus Joe Hartley, Malachi Napa and Manny Agboola from the youth team for a day full of demonstrations and exercises that highlights the work that the Regiment do on a daily basis.
Divided into four teams, the day consisted of each team trying their hand at different drills or challenges and skipper Jake Wright said:
“It was a very good day. It was a bit of an eye-opener to see what happens and the skill, the concentration and the experience that the guys on the base need to have to do their jobs. It was really enjoyable and we thank them for taking time out of their busy schedule to look after us so well.”
The link with the armed forces will see two fantastic events coming up. Next Friday, 24th June, will see the Chairman’s Quiz held at the Oxford Academy, raising funds for the Community Trust and for the R2r cycle ride, which is raising awareness and funds for Combat Stress.
Chairman Darryl Eales, PA Cheryl Cooper and Community Director Caroline Robbins will all be taking part in this cycle ride as it heads back to the Kassam Stadium from the front line of the WW1 Battle of the Somme- marking 100 years since the battle.
