Reaction as United lose out at Rovers
Michael Appleton was brutally honest as his Oxford United side were beaten at Bristol Rovers yesterday.
“I just didn’t think we were good enough, right from the start” he told Yellow Player HD. “A lot of the big moments summed up our performance and I thought we were sloppy right from the start and deserved to lose.
“In the past we’ve been good when we’ve gone behind, especially away from home, and have picked ourselves up very quickly. Once they got the goal Rovers had their tails up and made it very difficult for us. I thought we grew into the game a little bit without really doing anything special.
“ I thought it was a fantastic goal by Kane and we had an opportunity through Liam Sercombe as well but for whatever reason it was a performance we don’t expect from the players. Over the last two years we haven’t had many performances like that, so let’s just make sure it’s an isolated incident: that’s the message we gave to the players afterwards.
“We travel to Fleetwood on Wednesday and will be looking for a proper performance. Do that and you give yourself an opportunity to win the game. We have been really good over the last 18 months at bouncing back from disappointment and making sure it is only short-term. The players will regroup and I fully expect that on Wednesday night we make life a lot harder for Fleetwood than we did for Bristol Rovers.”
