Great opportunities for youngsters
Last week saw the first trials for the Oxford United Football and Education Academy
The Academy is a great way to gain qualifications while also being part of a football environment.
Based at the club’s Training Ground it offers a full time programme of football and education for students aged 16-19 as part of the FA Development plan, and is fully endorsed by the FA.
There are places available to candidates on 1, 2 or 3 year programmes and students will have access to both the BTEC First (level 2, Equivalent to 4 GCSE's) and the BTEC National Diploma (Level 3, Equivalent to 3 A Levels).
On the football side of things players will have the opportunity to progress through their Level 1 and 2 football coaching awards, plus a First aid certificate, and have the opportunity to re-sit English and Maths GCSE (Required for University entry).
The players access structured training sessions every day from qualified coaches and receive regular 1-1 coaching, squad mentoring on professionalism, mental strength, football fitness, diet and nutrition, match analysis and career development.
The squad play matches every Wednesday in the Youth Conference Football League, Football College League and County Cups.
The course offers players links and scholarship opportunities with clubs in the USA. Educational links are also in place for students to access higher education courses at a number of UK universities including Manchester Metropolitan, Worcester and Oxford Brookes.
Players will be given the opportunity of employment once qualified working for the Oxford United Football in the Community scheme during holiday times and it could lead to the opportunity to progress through to the Oxford United Youth Team and be offered a full time scholarship.
The Academy will be holding trials son- keep an eye out for full details. Take a look at what is on offer HERE
We are always happy to hear from anyone in the Oxford area who may be able to help with accommodation for our scholars.
