Club statement on changes at the Kassam Stadium
Oxford United Football Club announces that following a reorganisation of the club’s first team coaching staff, Micky Lewis will be leaving the club.
The club would like to formally thank Micky for his huge contribution to the club over many years, firstly as a player and then as a valued member of the backroom team. Micky played over 350 times for the U’s between 1988 and 2000 before joining the coaching set-up. During two spells he performed every role from youth team coach to caretaker manager and will leave with the very best wishes of everyone at the club. He will remain a lifelong friend to Oxford United.
The club can also confirm that Head of Sports Science Alasdair Lane will be leaving the club. Alasdair has been with the club since 2012 and in those three years has established and developed the OUFC Sports Science department. We also wish him well for the future.
The reorganisation will see the promotion of Chris Allen to become involved in the coaching of the first team. Chris has been working as the club’s Under 18 coach within the Academy set up, and has played a major role in the development of a number of young players who have come through the Academy system.
Head Coach Michael Appleton commented, “Whilst any staff departures from the football club are always difficult, I would personally like to thank Micky and Alasdair for their efforts during my first season here and wish them the very best for the future.
“In regards to Chrissy Allen, I feel he has done an outstanding job with the Under 18s and deserves his opportunity to step up to the first team whilst also ensuring the smooth transition of our youth players from the Academy to our First Team squad.”
