Young U's weigh up options in 0-0 draw at Northampton
Matt Bevans made his comeback as a United Development Side drew 0-0 at Northampton Town this afternoon.
Bevans has been out of action since picking up a knee injury while on loan at Farnborough in September but has worked hard on his recovery and came on for the final fifteen minutes of the game at Sixfields earlier today.
The U’s fielded a very young side that included six trialists in the starting eleven as well as keeper Jack Stevens, left back Freddie Grant, Sam Humphreys and Josh Ashby in midfield and James Roberts up front. Aidan Hawtin, fresh from his senior debut as a sub at Tranmere on Saturday, came on for the last half hour alongside Callum O'Dowda.
Coach Micky Lewis said:
“It was a good game despite the lack of goals. Northampton had a strong line-up so it was always going to be difficult but I thought the attitude from our lads was spot on. The trialists obviously wanted to show what they could do and that helped make it a really competitive 90 minutes.
“Both sides had decent chances and we probably did enough to win but it was more about looking at one or two options and seeing how well people did. Over all both sides will take plenty away from it and it was good to see Bevs get a run out after all his hard work.”
